Seychelles – the paradise within the Indian Ocean
The local Tourist Agengy and other several representatives of the local businesses (travel agencies and hotels) came to Romania in order to tell, travel agents in Bucharest, stories about ” the paradise within the Indian Ocean” and give them reasons to send their tourists (especially those who go on their honeymoon) in Seychelles.
Seychelles Islands are located in the Indian Ocean, 1600 km east of Africa and the archipelago consists of 115 islands.The average annual temperature is 27 degrees C in air, ocean water having an average annual temperature of 29 degrees C. The official currency is the seychelois rupee ,1 € representing about 17 rupees.
The largest island is called Mahé, on whose territory the international airport is located and the capital of Seychelles Republic, Victoria. The island population is 78,000 inhabitants, representing approximately 90% of the population of the whole country.
The island is 28 km long and only 8km wide, but it houses a beautiful natural park formed around a mountain peak, from where you can admire the wonderful view of the entire archipelago. The island is rich in tropical vegetation, has a total of 65 beaches and mountains with an elevation of about 1000 m.
Praslin Island is the second largest island in the Seychelles. The distance between Mahé and Praslin can easily be covered by air or by a vessel that can carry up to 350 passengers. Air travel lasts 15 minutes and flights are available every hour, while with the boat takes an hour, 2-3 times per day.
The most beautiful beaches are Anse Lazio and Anse Volbert. You can go on trips to natural reservations or track turtles and birds.
In the Vallée de Mai National Park you feel like time stood still. Palms, numerous mammals, reptiles, the Seychelles black parrot can be found. Here you will find the unique Coco de Mer palm, the trees with the largest seeds in the world and leaves that can reach up to 14 m long and 7 m wide,the trunk reaching up to 30 m high. This reservation was included in UNESCO heritage in 1983.
Silhouette Island is 34 km away from Mahé and is the third largest island. The landscape is mountainous, with four peaks that exceed 500 feet tall, the best known being Dauban. It has seven beaches and 35 square kilometers of virgin forest.
La Digue Island, the fourth largest island, has a population of about 2,000 people, mostly living in the village of La Passe located on the west coast of the island. The island is known mainly because of its beaches which attract thousands of tourists annually. White sand beaches, unreal turquoise water color, palm and coconut trees in the immediate vicinity of the beach, all have made the island to be considered one of the most beautiful in the world.
This is the place where the sanocho bird lives, species out of which survived fewer than 100 wild specimens. Neighboring islands, Coco, Marianne and Félicité are considered excellent for snorkeling or diving. The best place to taste the local cuisine specialties is La Passe, a place where you will discover the charm of sea food delicacies.
The most popular coral islands are Bird, Desrochessi and Denis being perfect for snorkeling, diving or walking in nature. These are 30-45 minutes away from Mahé.
Aldabra is the second largest coral atoll in the world, hosting between 100,000-150,000 giant Aldabra tortoises, the largest land crab in the world, various species of sharks, etc.. This island has been transformed into a reservation, entering UNESCO.
Seychelles hosts nearly 90,000 people of different races: Europeans, Africans, Asians. There are three official languages: Seychellois Creole, English and French. 46% of the area consists of natural reserves, with 20 national parks. The most popular activities you can perform here are snorkeling, diving, surfing, observation of animals in their natural environment, walking on natural trails, sailing in the bay.
Seychelles can be one destination for those who want to spend their honeymoon or want to get married. Besides the warm weather and romantic resorts that are perfect for couples, there is the possibility to get married on the island and it is recognized in the EU. The passport and birth certificate are necessary. Applying for registry marriage should be at least 2 months before the wedding date.
Accommodation prices vary depending on the comfort you want. Whatever you choose, the conditions are excellent, the difference being the location.

All the above information I have found out during last week’s presentation, and from the pictures and stories I realized that is one of the places I want to go soon. Life and time flows differently in Africa, and the combination of exotic islands, turquoise ocean, animals, luxury hotels and people is what gives the place its own charm.
